At approximately 9:00 this morning, a weapon was confiscated from a student at Dixon High School. There were no injuries and the school was placed on lockdown to ensure student safety, while an investigation was ongoing. Dixon R-I Staff and Dixon Police Department worked in collaboration to resolve the issue. District safety protocols worked to ensure student safety, which is our top priority. By approximately 10:30 a.m., the High School was back on normal schedule.
We would like to express our gratitude to the individuals who shared important information about the possibility of a weapon being on school grounds, allowing us to resolve this matter without a more serious incident.
We ask that parents speak to their children tonight about the importance of keeping our schools safe. Students are not allowed to have weapons on school property or at school events. Not only does a weapon at school risk the safety of others, but students who violate this rule are subject to serious disciplinary and law enforcement consequences.
In an unrelated incident, an ambulance was dispatched to the Middle School this morning, to treat an individual with a personal medical issue.
